Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started?
Hello. I am Koko. Born and raised in Japan. I have loved gifting someone handmade greeting cards or something hand-painted since I was a child. When I was in Australia in 2019, my host family had a big blackboard in the kitchen. That was the beginning of everything. Soon I got into Chalk Art. And I learned the technique directly from the pioneer of it in the Gold Coast, Australia. After that, I decided to learn typography in USA to write better letters because English was not my first language. When I came to USA from Japan a year ago, I searched for "Chalk artists in USA". And I ended up coming across this page. That's how I started using and loving VersaChalk!
What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
I enjoy creating personalized Blackboard Art. Especially being involved in people's weddings or celebrations is a great pleasure in my life. Each client has each story, and I cherish the story like my own to express their love and compassion on a single blackboard instead of them.
What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself!
I love traveling to see new things. Since I came to USA a year ago, I've been busy traveling to various fascinating places in this huge country.I'm always curious to see the majestic nature, new cafes, and different cultures. I believe that I can be inspired by it to make better works.
