VersaChalk Artist of the Month this April- @Thesparksdesigns

Tell us a little about yourself.  How did you get started?
I started loving anything about letters ever since I was a little girl. I dabbled a little bit on hand lettering when I was in 5th grade but stopped it altogether when I turned 16 or 17. When I became a mom of three, I needed an outlet and I found adult coloring. I always admired the letters on the pages I colored, so that led me to going back to my love of letters and learning modern calligraphy / bounce lettering. I bought two brush pens - a large tip and a small tip, and soon after I tried my hand on liquid chalk markers and faux calligraphy. It has been a fun learning experience ever since.

What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
I love being able to write encouraging things, or even some funny things sometimes, in a beautiful way. My hope is that my lettering pieces bring a smile to those who see it. I like seeing my work after I've done it, and seeing its beauty beyond its imperfections. I enjoy making cards with this skill even more (I don't have to depend on rubber stamps anymore). I feel happy seeing a few of my lettering pieces hanging on our walls whereas before I would probably buy them from a store. I love noticing my progress as I practiced and tried to improve this skill. I know I still have a lot of room to grow, and I can't wait to see where this leads me.

What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself!
Other than all things lettering, I also like to learn how to paint with watercolors and gouache. I love these two mediums. I think they are fun to work with. I also love to read books, mostly clean romance and historical fiction. I am a stay-home mom so most of my spare time outside of my art hobby is tending to my family and our home. I enjoy watching movies as well.

I am highly introverted, that's why you almost never see my face or hear my voice on social media. I am a mother of three children and a wife of almost 14 years to my husband. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems (with 3 years of Computer Science under my belt before that). That said, I don't like Math and computer programming. I wish to have my own craftroom/studio someday. I make do with my sewing-turned-craft table. I love the colors salmon/coral and turquoise/teal, and all their different hues and values. I can speak three languages fluently, two of which are my native tongue. Finally, I really love this kind of art - lettering, calligraphy, painting - and seeing other people's work inspire me.
