May Artist of the Month: Drawlifefreely
VersaChalk Artist of the Month this May- @Drawlifefreely
Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started?
I started really getting into hand lettering at the beginning of 2018 and from there, I just practiced at least 3-4 times a week by watching YouTube and IG tutorial videos. I did take one brush lettering class at Paper source, but other than that, I self taught. I started doing chalk art in my college days when I worked at a restaurant because they needed someone to do it. For my senior art project in college, I actually created 10 of my own chalkboards ranging in small to large sizes and did hand lettered quotes relating to feminism. I love that with calligraphy/hand lettering is that, no matter what art is shown, people are going to naturally read what is there, so why not make it look great to make them want to read it even more.
What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
Now, I use chalk markers for wedding signage, restaurant signage, personal signage around my home, and pretty much anything else that I think it can work for. I am proud of how far I have come with lettering and really hope to continuously improve my skills as I age! The secret to getting better at something, is willing to suck at it for a while. It gets better with time, but you have to be determined to put the time and effort in to it.

What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself!
Some fun facts about me are that I have 2 bearded dragons, I am a pescatarian, I love sweets, and I thoroughly enjoy a good true crime podcast. In my spare time, I am either working out, doing freelance graphic design, painting, custom watercolor home portraits, or playing with my dragons.
