Chalk Markers

08 questions

Shake the marker well with the cap on. Then point it upright and press the tip down repeatedly until you see ink flow through. This primes the pump. It may take 10–20 presses on a new marker.

If the tip has dried out, dampen it slightly with water and try priming again.

VersaChalk markers are designed for non-porous surfaces (glass, whiteboards, chalkboards). On these surfaces, a damp cloth or wet eraser removes ink cleanly.

If ghosting persists, the surface may be porous or textured — ink can absorb into micro-scratches over time. Try our Cleaning Kit for stubborn residue.

VersaChalk markers work best on non-porous surfaces including:

  • Glass and mirrors
  • Chalkboards (slate, painted, laminated)
  • Whiteboards
  • Windows and storefront glass
  • Plastic and acrylic

Avoid porous surfaces like raw wood, uncoated paper, or unfinished concrete — ink will absorb and may not erase cleanly.

Shelf life depends on storage and use. Keep caps on tightly when not in use and store horizontally. Markers stored properly can last 1–2 years unopened. Once opened, use within 6 months for best performance.

VersaChalk markers are non-toxic and conform to ASTM D-4236. They are not intended for direct contact with food. For surfaces that come into contact with food (e.g., chalkboard menus near food prep), we recommend applying a sealant after use.

VersaChalk markers are water-based and not waterproof. Outdoor use on protected surfaces (covered storefronts, indoor-facing windows) works well. Direct exposure to rain will cause ink to run. For outdoor permanent signage, consider a sealant coat once the ink is fully dry.

Streaking usually means the marker needs more priming. Re-prime by pressing the tip on a scrap surface until ink flows evenly. Also ensure the surface is clean and free of dust or grease before writing.

Yes. VersaChalk markers are available in multiple tip sizes — from fine 3mm tips for detailed work to broad 15mm tips for large signage. Check individual product listings for available tip options.

Chalkboards

04 questions

Ghosting on chalkboards usually means ink has set into the surface. Try erasing with a damp cloth first. For stubborn ghosting, use our Cleaning Kit, which is formulated for this exact issue.

To prevent ghosting going forward, avoid leaving ink on the board for extended periods and always erase with a damp cloth rather than a dry one.

Make sure the wall surface is clean, dry, and free from cracks, dents, holes, and moisture. Adhesive chalkboards need a smooth, flat surface for a secure hold. If the issue persists after 24 hours on a clean wall, contact our support team.

Traditional chalkboards benefit from seasoning (rubbing chalk over the full surface and erasing) before first use. However, VersaChalk liquid chalk markers work best on boards designed for wet-erase markers — no seasoning required on those surfaces. Check your chalkboard product description to confirm compatibility.

VersaChalk sources chalkboards from carefully selected suppliers. For specific sourcing or material information, contact our team with the product name and we'll get you the details.

Vinyl

05 questions

VersaChalk vinyl is ideal for smooth, non-porous surfaces: painted walls, windows, glass, smooth tile, and hard plastic. Avoid textured, rough, or porous surfaces — adhesion will be poor and the vinyl may lift at the edges.

First, clean the surface thoroughly — any dust, grease, or moisture will prevent adhesion. Apply firm, even pressure across the full surface when placing. If it still won't hold, the surface may be too textured or the temperature too cold (below 50°F / 10°C). Warm surfaces accept vinyl better.

Peel slowly and evenly from one corner. Warming the vinyl slightly with a hair dryer on low heat makes removal easier and reduces residue risk. If adhesive residue remains, a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth will remove it without damaging most surfaces — test a small area first.

VersaChalk vinyl products are intended for single use. Repositioning is possible within the first few minutes of application, but once fully set, peeling and re-applying will reduce adhesion quality significantly.

Vinyl is available in multiple sizes and finishes. Product details are listed per SKU on each product page. If you're looking for a specific size for a commercial project, contact us and we'll help you find the right fit.

Orders & Shipping

06 questions

Orders are prepared in 1–2 business days before shipping.

  • Domestic (US): 3–5 business days standard; 1–2 business days expedited
  • International: 15–20 business days standard; 3–5 business days expedited

Expedited international orders include customs & duties in the checkout total — no surprises at delivery.

If your tracking hasn't updated in 10 or fewer business days, check your tracking link for the latest status. Occasional carrier delays are normal.

If there's been no tracking movement for more than 10 business days, contact our team with your order number and we'll investigate with the carrier.

First, double-check the shipping address on your order confirmation. Then check with neighbors or your building manager, and visit your local post office — sometimes carriers leave packages there.

If still missing after 2 business days, contact us. For orders under $100 we'll offer a full refund or replacement. For orders over $100, our team will guide you through the next steps.

Once an order is processed, edits are not possible due to how our fulfillment system works — even within the first hour. If you need to make a change, contact us immediately and we'll do our best to cancel before it ships. If already shipped, we'll guide you through a return.

Yes. We ship worldwide. Standard international shipping takes 15–20 business days. For expedited orders, customs and duties are included in your checkout total — no additional charges at delivery.

For standard international orders, the buyer is responsible for any customs charges. We declare items at minimal value to help reduce these where possible.

Take clear photos of the package (including any visible labels) and the contents you received. Contact us with your order number and the photos and we'll verify against what was shipped and send a replacement for any missing items.

Safety & SDS

03 questions

Yes. VersaChalk markers are non-toxic and conform to ASTM D-4236. They are water-based with no harsh solvents. As with any art supply, direct ingestion should be avoided. Keep markers capped and stored out of reach of young children.

Contact our support team with the specific product name or SKU and we'll send the Safety Data Sheet for that product. SDS documents are available for all VersaChalk marker products.

VersaChalk markers are non-toxic and widely used in restaurants, cafes, and food service settings for menus and signage. They are not intended for direct food contact. For surfaces near food prep, we recommend a clear sealant once the ink is fully dry. If you need a full SDS for compliance purposes, contact us and we'll provide it.
