Tell us a little about yourself.  How did you get started?
Kate Slayton Lettering was established in fall of 2018, after our June wedding! 

Ever since I was little, I was always creating and designing something. I didn't know where my career was going to take me until it was time to plan my own wedding. It all began when I hand lettered on over 100 oyster shells as escort cards for our own wedding, I instantly fell in love! I always knew I wanted to do something in the creative- wedding industry but didn't know where I would end up.

I absolutely admire how beautiful handwriting is! It is such a special touch for any custom gift, weddings or special event! When I first opened my shop it was just a side business running on part time with dreams to take it full time. Fast forward to 2020, COVID hit and everything changed and ever since then Kate Slayton Lettering has been full time. Now I do everything from weddings/events to seasonal home decor and unique gifts such as the baby sonogram ornaments that I do.  

Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland! My husband, Kevin and live just outside of Annapolis Maryland, with our crazy golden doodle puppy named Cali Dune! Kevin is a neurosurgical PA and works with me for KSL on all of his days off. We enjoy taking my market cart, Rosie around town and popping up at different local events! 



What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
I love everything about running my own business and hand lettering, but what I love the most is the people I have met and relationships I have built. From repeat and new couples and customers, other small businesses owners, vendors.

I get really excited talking through a new idea, bringing it to life and when you get happy tears or great reviews; those are the moments I crave! It really is a dream come true to be where I am now, it is not easy to run your own business but if you put your mind to it you can do anything you want! This year I won Best of Annapolis Best Wedding Vendor! 

What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself! 
In my spare time I love creating designs for our home, going to eat (huge foodies) and spending the day at a local winery or hanging out with our family and friends and of course lots of doodle snuggles! We also love going camping near the beach and enjoy a campfire!
