VersaChalk Artist of the Month this November- @lettersanddust

Tell us a little about yourself.  How did you get started?
I started L&D in 2013 beginning with rentable wedding signs after seeing how signs were discarded after events—and with so many reusable materials it just seemed like a waste! From signs, the natural extension was stationery and having the ability to work with couples to brand their wedding from invitation to day-of through personalized details. I have a BA in Graphic Design and has always been drawn to art and crafting. Her passion for L&D is driven by unique couples, having new projects every day and creative problem solving with regards to reducing waste in the event industry.

What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
What I love about being a hand lettering artist is that every project is completely unique, and I won’t get the same result twice. Somehow the imperfections of hand lettering are what make it much more special to me, As well as the rental aspect where artwork is erased rather than permanent. I also love having the ability to work across different genres and themes, colors, moods— every event is different and it just keeps each day new and exciting!

I am a recent new mom of two beautiful kiddos, Luna who will be two in January and Leo who was just born at the beginning of October. So my spare time has definitely been very baby focused the past couple years, but I love getting out and walking in Oregon, having a good cup of coffee or a cocktail and enjoying restaurants when time allows. I also enjoy doing non-lettering related crafts, especially making things for it with the kids has been rewarding.

What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself!
Some fun facts about myself, I grew up in a very small town of mostly farming but move to Portland in my early 20s. I went to Costa Rica just to see sloths, only to discover there was actually a sloth sanctuary in Oregon. My favorite country to travel to so far has been Mexico—mostly for the food! I am not a good cook or baker, I have tried many times but I just cannot get into it, and do not enjoy it. I have ran in multiple head to Coast relays, as well as many obstacle and Tough Mudder running events, hoping to just get back to running for pleasure in 2022. I love animals, and my dream would be to open a sanctuary for all the animals considered “ugly”, with armadillos, bats, and platypuses being some of my favorites! I would love to travel to Thailand someday, as well as Mallorca, and Australia.
