My name is Nikki Stapleford and I am 28 years old. I started Written By Nikki Calligraphy in January 2019 after creating the decor and signs for my own wedding in 2018. After my wedding, I had a lot of questions about where I got my signs done so I started doing work for close family and friends. At that point I decided to start an Instagram account to showcase what I was working on and word started to spread. After years of hard work in the wedding community, COVID brought my business to a haunt in 2020 and forced me to think outside of the box. This gave me the opportunity to open up my Etsy Shop and business has been doing well ever since.
What do you love most about being a lettering artist/calligrapher?
There are so many things I love about my job, but the most important is feeling like I'm never working. Creating products for people's weddings and homes is a huge enjoyment in my life so it never truly feels like work. I love working with clients to create their vision. It's so fun to see what we discuss so thoroughly over email turn into a reality when everything is complete. At the same time, so many of my clients rely on me for creativity and that is fun too. I enjoy being trusted enough to create pieces for weddings that they don't see until days before they say "I do" and it challenges me to create something unique, which keeps me ahead of the trends.
What do you like to do in your spare time / Fun facts about yourself!
I love my job and working for so many people around the world, but I do work hard to create time for myself, as well. In my spare time I love to spend time with my 14 month old daughter, Kinley, and husband, Matt. We enjoy hiking, going for walks, and simply enjoying the outdoors together. I like to go out to dinner with family and friends, but could also be the happiest person sitting in comfy clothes on my couch. I would definitely say I am more of a homebody and I wouldn't change a thing!
