It's Shark Week! Turning the Most Misunderstood Creatures Into Friendl

Shark Week is officially under way and that means it is time for us nature-lovin’ folks to pay homage to the most misunderstood creature of the sea. So let's all color the seas with our awesome chalkboard art and show some love! Of course, that means taking out my go-to DIY materials, chalkboards and liquid chalk markers! And guess what? You won't be "sharking" alone, because the whole household will get excited for this project!

Showin’ Some Shark Week Love with Chalkboard Art

My family just loves the great outdoors and we are always trying to stay in tune with nature. We especially love the ocean. While the kids are watching documentary after documentary about the Great Whites and the ancient Megalodon, the adults debate whether those seemingly mythical giant sharks of the past really existed. My creative juices start flowing!

I wanted to create a piece of art for the family that captured the essence of the week in a humorous way. And I had just the thing in mind!

Take a "Shark" Bite Out of Fear with Liquid Chalk Markers:

1. First, find the perfect statement for a Shark Week poster. I wanted to portray sharks as gentle creatures, since they are often misunderstood. I decided to play off of a popular quote, and came up with “I’m a lover, not a biter.” Adults love the pun, and it teaches kids that not all sharks are dangerous.
2. Once you have your message and image in mind, grab a few sheets of vinyl paper and your liquid chalk markers.

3. Ready to draw? Pick up your liquid chalk markers and draw the outline of a shark. You can use gray, white or blue markers as classic shark colors. They work really well against the black vinyl sheet, too. But feel free to draw a more fantastically colored shark if you prefer. Just don’t forget to draw in the jagged teeth!
4. You can write your statement either inside or outside the outline of the shark. I prefer to write mine inside. Use different colors to make your chalkboard art stand out.
5. Now how about adding other designs on the side like life preservers and squiggly blue waves? Make your poster pop!
